Cấu trúc Used to
| Khẳng định: S + used to + V-infinitivePhủ định: S + did not / didn’t + used to + V-infinitiveNghi vấn: Did + S + use to + V-infinitive? |
Cấu trúc Used to V được sử dụng:
- Để diễn tả một hành động, một thói quen hoặc trạng thái đã từng xảy ra trong quá khứ nhưng nó không còn xảy ra trong hiện tại nữa.
- Dùng cấu trúc này để nhấn mạnh việc giữa hiện tại khác với quá khứ chúng khác nhau ra sao.
Example:
Khẳng định:
Mina used to live in Canada.
Mina đã từng sống ở Canada.
Jennifer used to work for a large insurance company.
Jennifer đã từng làm việc cho một công ty bảo hiểm lớn.
Phủ định:
I didn’t use to like him much when we were at school.
Tôi đã từng không thích anh ấy nhiều khi chúng tôi ở trường.
I didn’t use to think that it would be a great idea to live there.
Tôi đã từng không nghĩ rằng sống ở đó sẽ là một ý tưởng tuyệt vời.
Nghi vấn:
Didn’t Kate use to have long hair?
Không phải bạn đã từng để tóc dài sao?
You used to see a lot of Diana, didn’t you?
Bạn đã từng nhìn thấy Diana rất nhiều, phải không?
Các bạn cần lưu ý những điểm sau
- Dạng phủ định của cấu trúc Used to V có thể được viết dưới dạng Used not to V.
Example: Lisa used not to go swimming.
Amanda used not to drink that much tea and chocolate.
- Để diễn tả về thói quen trong hiện tại, bạn nên dùng các trạng từ tần suất (usually, always, already, sometimes, often, never,…)
- Cấu trúc là Used hay use?
- Khi trong câu không có did, ta sẽ dùng used to (có d)
- Khi trong câu có did, ta sẽ dùng use to (không có d)
