Câu điều kiện là gì trong tiếng Anh?
Trong tiếng Anh câu điều kiện dùng để diễn đạt, giải thích về một hành động hoặc sự việc nào đó có thể xảy ra khi điều kiện nói đến xảy ra. Đa phần thì các câu điều kiện đều chứa “if”. Một câu điều kiện sẽ bao gồm hai mệnh đề:
- Mệnh đề chính hay còn được gọi là mệnh đề kết quả.
- Mệnh đề chứa “if” là mệnh đề phụ hoặc mệnh đề điều kiện, nó nêu lên điều kiện để mệnh đề chính trở thành sự thật.
Các loại câu điều kiện trong tiếng Anh
Câu điều kiện loại 0
Câu điều kiện loại 0 được sử dụng để giải thích, diễn giải những tình huống được coi là chân lý, thường là những sự thật hiển nhiên trong cuộc sống.
Công thức câu điều loại 0:

Example:
- Organisms on Earth will die if the water is polluted.
Các loài sinh vật trên Trái Đất sẽ chết nếu nguồn nước bị ô nhiễm.
- If Jayson phones, tell him to meet Rose at the company.
Nếu Jayson điện thoại, bảo anh ta gặp Rose ở công ty.
Lưu ý:
- Trong câu điều kiện loại 0, cả hai mệnh đề đều sẽ được chia ở thì hiện tại đơn.
- Mệnh đề chứa If có thể đứng ở vị trí đầu hoặc cuối câu đều được.
Câu điều kiện loại 1
Câu điều kiện loại 1 dùng để diễn tả những sự việc hoàn toàn có khả năng xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.
Công thức câu điều kiện loại 1:

Example:
- If Evelyn doesn’t hurry, she will miss the bus.
Nếu Evelyn không nhanh lên, cô ấy sẽ bị lỡ chuyến xe buýt.
- I will finish the novel quickly if you don’t blame me too much.
Tôi sẽ hoàn thành nhanh cuốn tiểu thuyết nếu bạn đừng hối thúc tôi quá nhiều.
Lưu ý:
- Trong câu điều kiện loại 1, mệnh đề chứa “If” được chia ở thì hiện tại đơn, còn mệnh đề chính sẽ được chia ở thì tương lai đơn.
- Hai mệnh đề có thể thay đổi vị trí cho nhau.
Câu điều kiện loại 2
Câu điều kiện loại 2 được sử dụng để diễn tả những tình huống không có thật ở hiện tại, không thể xảy ra trong tương lai.
Công thức câu điều kiện loại 2:

| If + S + V-ed/V2 (Quá khứ hoàn thành) | S + would / could / should + V-inf |
Example:
- If I were a flower, I would like to be a rose with many thorns but always bright.
Nếu tôi là một bông hoa, tôi muốn là một đóa hoa hồng nhiều gai nhưng luôn rực rỡ.
- If I had $500,000, I would study in the United Kingdom.
Nếu tôi có 500.000 đô la, tôi sẽ đi du học Vương quốc Anh.
Lưu ý:
- Với câu điều kiện loại 2, đối với động từ “to be” ta sẽ sử dụng were cho tất cả các ngôi.
- Nếu điều kiện mệnh đề If không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại thì kết quả cũng không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại.
Câu điều kiện loại 3
Câu điều kiện loại 3 được sử dụng để diễn tả những sự việc không xảy ra trong quá khứ, thường chỉ những mong ước, sự tiếc nuối.
Công thức câu điều kiện loại 3:

Example:
- If Evelyn hadn’t gone to England to study, she would have married Ryan.
Nếu Evelyn không đi du học Anh thì cô ấy đã lấy Ryan.
- If Catherine studied hard she would have passed the final exam.
Nếu Catherine học hành chăm chỉ thì cô ấy đã vượt qua kỳ thi cuối kỳ.
Chú ý: Nếu điều kiện mệnh đề If không thể xảy ra ở quá khứ thì kết quả cũng không thể xảy ra ở quá khứ.
